First Attempt at Invitations

So Allan and I went to a bridal show back in October to get some ideas for the things we still didn't have (which wasn't much).

We met with a few different stationary designers and saw all of the prices for these great invites. Then it occurred to me.... why don't I just make the invitations myself! I do have a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design and lord knows I have made more art projects than I care to count!

So, I made the trip out to Jerry's Artarama in Norwalk to get myself some fabulous card stock (because let's face it, Micheal's Crafts has nothing) and started working on a prototype last night.

Well, It didn't come out too bad. It was my first attempt and there are still things I want to change about it.

Here is the example of something like what I was going for:

And here is what I made last night:

The inserts aren't complete because I want them to look similar to the examples above. I am pretty happy with how they came out for the first crack at them. I am going to do more design work to them to make the text and whatnot look better. This was more or less to get a template for cutting the paper to the right size.

I love the pocket invites! Are you going to make the accommodations and reception card wider to match the example? I can't wait to see the invites after you add a little more design to them. Are you going to put them in an outer envelope? My friend just used the pocket invite with matching round sticker to close the three open sides.

I plan on making the Reception and Accommodations cards wider to match the example, yes. I tried it that way first to see if I would like it better.

I also plan on putting them in an envelope. I have seen how the postal service can butcher cards sent in the mail so I would rather the envelope take the beating instead of the invite.

Next week I will have some time off and hopefully be able to make a final design for the invitations and upload the images. :)
